Every year thousands of animals are abandoned, abused, etc. That's why AFAD, a non-profit organization, was created in 1994 by a group of people concerned about the wellbeing of animals in Yucatan.
Sustained only through donations and volunteer work, AFAD works to improve the situation of animals, by rescuing animals in danger, investigating allegations of abuse, campaign development (adoption, sterilization, education, etc..), to name a few examples.
AFAD aims to create awareness about animal care, because even if animals don't think like us, they deserve the same kind of respect and love that we do. We thereby try to create a just society because, as Gandhi said "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way their animals are treated."
